Gordy has been entertaining in the CU area since the early sixties. He was featured for many years at the Branding Iron Lounge Piano Bar at Western Bowl. You can still hear recordings from that era by going to ReverbNation, or Gordy's site http://www.keyboardstudio.com, or just Google "Gordy Wilson". Robb (Boltini GM) and Gordy felt the time was right to re-introduce the piano bar concept to local audiences. Gordy has a virtually encyclopedic knowledge of jazz, pop, country, show, and movie music and is eager to play any request. Today, this ability is enhanced by a cyber-ability for instant downloads of lyrics or complete sheet music. Gordy also introduced the open mic concept at Western Bowl. Before karaoke was a word he accompanied singers who walked into the lounge. Treat yourself to a live backing, interacting and following in a way not possible with pre-recorded accompaniment. A live performance is like going to a racetrack: the crowd secretly hopes for a pile-up, but cheers when bobbing and weaving avoids what musicians call a "train wreck" (to mix metaphors). Gordy fills his schedule by directing the Perceptions Praise Team at Champaign First United Methodist Church (just around the corner). He also instructs music students at the church. He doesn't care for "spare time", so he also tunes and repairs pianos and organs. Once a year in September, Gordy does a show with his son, Gavin at the Egyptian Theater in DeKalb, IL.
