Exposed

Exposed!

every other THURSDAY @ 8pm w/ Amy Ali  (this event is on hiatus until August 26, 2010)

An imaginative evening inspired by an awareness of experience expressed through meaning, sound, and rhythmic language. A night nearly impossible to define.

Each week we feature a new theme, a new musician, and introduce a new form of verbal expression. We cover anything from poetry, to storytelling, to improv, monologues, and even comedy. All entries from artists wishing to partake whether it be acoustically or verbally should be sent to Amy Ali at: poetryexposed@gmail.com.

About Amy…”Poetry for me has always been of interest but not something I have been able to tap into. In fact it wasnt until the seperation with my husband two years ago that I was actually even able to write. Since then however, I have not been able to stop. I find that I have a hard time expressing thoughts and emotions at the time they should be expressed, so I kind of bottle it all up and release it through my writing. I like poetry inparticular because it is easy to hide behind the words. It is a way of indirectly dealing with the emotions I seem to have trouble dealing with directly. One of my greatest inpirations is Chicago. There is something about the city that I find refreshing. I try to travel there as often as possible to partake in the many things the city has to offer a small town gal such as myself. Part of what I love most about Chicago is the art. In the city art is everywhere. It’s on the buildings, it’s on the walls, its in the architecture, it’s in the music, it’s on the streets. The city, The Windy City, breaths art. When I walked into Boltini to check it out as a venue for my poetry night I immediately felt as if I were at a lounge spot in the city. I loved the atmosphere and the intimate setting Boltini had to offer. My vision for this night is just to create a place where people of common interest can come together and express themselves in ways they otherwise could not. People that feel the same as I, that there has been something missing from the downtown Champaign scene. I wanted a place where I could go on any given night to enjoy some live music, grab a drink, sit back, relax, and listen to some poetry. I figured that if it were something I wanted to do, then there had to be others that wanted for the same thing. Poetry is a passion of mine. I enjoy reading it, writing it, and presenting it. It is my hope that others will join us in our expressions without confessions as we gratify emotions that otherwise would not be satisfied.”
